Since 2002, the Willamette Valley Cancer Foundation was established to assist cancer patients locally in Yamhill, Tillamook, and Lincoln counties. Cancer puts a strain on people's health, finances, and family life. The Foundation, through donar and volunteer generousity, supports those brave patients in their fight against cancer. We assist patients by providing grant assistance to help ease the financial burden wile they are undergoing treatment, so they can focus on getting healthy and adapting to huge change. We assist by allocating grants to help with basic needs such as rent payments, utilities, food, transportation to and from treatment, lodging, medical premium payments, prosthetics, and many other means of support.
To date, over $150,000 in grants has been distributed to assist local individuals during their time of need. We are a local Foundation that continues thriving from the many donations from community members and businesses. As we assist our local patients, we are also giving back to the local businesses, as many bills such as rent and utility payments are set up locally. Thus, we are all supporting one another in this community.
The Willamette Valley Cancer Foundation also assists patients in connecting with local resources, providing financial assistance, and participating in educational and prevention activites in the community. We sponsor health fairs in local schools, Tar Wars program, and various activities connecting to resources in the local community and beyond.
The Foundation has established a resource library in the local Cancer Center where patients can check out books, nutritional cookbooks, Lance Armstrong binders, and many other materials. Patients and their family members also have access to the Internet in our center to research cancer information and print out materials.
Finally, although we support cancer patients in our local area, they do NOT need to receive treatement at our facility. Some individuals have insurance that requires them to get their treatment in another area such as Portland, and children receive treatment at Doernbecher. We WILL assist these individuals (as long as they live in our service area) and may times they need assistance with transportation costs that mount from mulitple visits.
