A "plume" of thanks to Dr. Cristian Slough who donned feathers and a great sense of humor to compete in the "Biggest Turkey" contest and help raise funds for the Willamette Valley Cancer Foundation. In addition to Dr. Slough, there was a whole "flock" of volunteers, businesses, a supportive medical community and individual donors who were instrumental in the making of this top gobbler. Appreciation to all! This summer, the support for the Foundation really heated up on July 9 with a "trifecta" of events, all in support of the Foundation. Volunteers, participants and donors had multiple opportunities to get involved. In just one day the Foundation benefited from: 1) The Turkey Trot 5K and 8K Runs and 2-Mile Fitness Walk, 2) The Biggest Turkey Lip Sync Contest and 3) "Uncorked" The Oregon Wine and Art Auction. Whew!
Although the events took place throughout just one day, the preparations took a great deal more time, as well as a heaping of talent and treasure. My simple but sincere "Thank you" seems small in comparison to the enormous impact these fundraisers will have on people who are battling cancer. To those of you who played a part in making one of these events a success - as a volunteer, participant or donor - again, thank you! You are living out our mission, "to foster hope though the support of cancer patients, education and prevention."
